DORIS LOUISE WETMORE
 

Doris Louise Wetmore, 86, a life long resident of Tonkawa, Oklahoma passed away January 27, 2008 in her home.  Doris was born July 20, 1921 in Tonkawa, Oklahoma to John Cyril and Ruth Agnes (Miller) Warner.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at the Tonkawa Bible Church, Tonkawa, Oklahoma with Pastor Stuart N. Milligan officiating. Interment will follow in the Tonkawa I.O.O.F. Cemetery.   Arrangements are under the direction of Tonkawa Funeral Home, Tonkawa, Oklahoma.

Doris received her education at Washington grade school, and Tonkawa High School graduating with the class of 1939 and N.O.C. graduating in 1941.  She attended Oklahoma University then worked for John E. Boyer Company in Ponca City making airplane parts during the war.

On November 27, 1943 she was united in marriage to Albert E. Wetmore in San Diego, CA. Doris returned to Tonkawa and worked at Wetmore Pulverizer and Machinery Company as secretary for two years until Albert’s return from the Marines. They made their home in Tonkawa where they raised their two sons.

She was active in P.T.A. work, served as a Cub Scout den mother for six years and was a leader in the Camp Fire Girls organization for the neighborhood girls.  She was a charter member of Beta Sigma Phi in Tonkawa.

She loved growing flowers and was a member of the Tonkawa Garden Club for over 50 years.  She and her husband specialized in the growing of roses and African Violets for a time and she was superintendent of the Flower and Plants department at the Kay County Fair at Blackwell.

A favorite hobby was knitting, making sweaters and afghans for her grandchildren. Doris enjoyed music and learned to play many instruments.  While in grade school she played the accordion and was called on to entertain frequently.  She enjoyed her band and orchestra days especially the two years in the sax quartet where they went to National contests winning superior.

Doris was an active member of the Tonkawa Bible Church where she served as organist for 45 years and was a member of the Women’s Missionary Fellowship.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years Albert Wetmore of the home; two sons, Alan Wetmore and his wife, Debrah of Neodesha, Kansas, Duane Wetmore and his wife, Leona of Tonkawa, Oklahoma; seven grand children Tiffany, Trista, Trent, Caleb, Franklin, Patrick and Mary; and five great grandchildren; and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ruth, and her sister, Evelyn Trueblood.
