WILDA MARIE COOK

Wilda Marie Cook, 82, of Tonkawa, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, October 21, 2007 at Willow Haven Nursing Home in Tonkawa, Oklahoma.  Wilda was born December 9, 1924 in Cherryvale, Kansas to Fred and Lulu (Brooks) Rambow.

Celebration of her life will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 25, 2007 in the Tonkawa Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Serviss officiating.  Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Tonkawa, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direction of Tonkawa Funeral Home, Tonkawa, Oklahoma.

Wilda grew up and graduated from school in Cherryvale, Kansas; then graduated from cosmetology school on July 10, 1945.

She married Charles “Ed” Cook October 25, 1945 in Cherryvale, Kansas and he preceded her in death November 10, 2004 after celebrating 59 years of marriage.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church Hays, Kansas where she served as a youth leader, a Sunday School teacher, the Sunday School secretary, and was active in the American Baptist Woman’s Association.  She served as a cub scout and girl scout leader as their children were growing up.

Wilda opened an upholstery shop in Hays, Kansas in 1962, running it until she retired. She and Ed lived in Hays for fifty years before moving to Tonkawa, Oklahoma in 1998 to be close to their son. 

Wilda’s children remember how she opened her home to their many friends, welcoming them to the dinner table.  Sunday dinners were a time to have family and friends there.  She loved to visit and could listen for hours to those who needed a listening ear.  She walked the walk and gave them all something to aspire to. 

She is survived by her sons, Kenneth J. Cook and his wife, Doris of Kansas City, Kansas, Fred C. Cook of Cincinnati, Ohio, George Cook  and his wife, Amanda of Tonkawa, Oklahoma; her daughter, Carol R. Grover and her husband, Bill of Lancaster, California; a sister, Leota Davis of Wichita, Kansas; a brother, Clyde Rambow of Colorado Springs, Colorado;  seven grandchildren, James Cook and his wife, Dolores of Wichita, Kansas, John and Rachel Cook of Kansas City, Kansas, Adam and Bridget Grover of Lancaster, California, Timothy Cook and his wife, Lydia of Granite City, Illinois and Zachary Cook and his wife, Briana of Tonkawa, Oklahoma; two great grandchildren, Brianna and Caedmon Cook and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters, Alice Swayze and Evelyn Clark and two brothers, James and Kenneth Rambow.

Memorials may be made to charity of donor’s choice in care of Tonkawa Funeral Home, 400 E. Grand Ave. Tonkawa, Oklahoma 74653.
