Joyce “Joy” Arlene Asbury entered the presence of God on January 31, 2009. She was born to Robert and Phyllis (Kendall) Asbury on August 21, 1946 in Ponca City, Oklahoma.

Joy graduated in 1964 from Tonkawa High School. She obtained an Associate Degree from Northern Oklahoma College in 1966 and a Bachelor of Business degree from Oklahoma State University in 1969.  She resided in Ponca City and was employed by Conoco-Phillips for over 30 years prior to retirement.  

She was an organist for Albright Methodist Church in Ponca City and had previously served as an organist at the Ponca City First Christian Church.  During more than 40 years of service to her church and community, Joy actively participated in numerous groups, boards and organizations, including the Ponca City Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, Ponca City Federated Music Club, Meals on Wheels, Ponca City Concert Series, PEO, American Association of University Women, American Guild of Organists, Bible Study Fellowship and Kay County Election Board. She was a member of the Tonkawa United Methodist Church, a docent for the Conoco-Phillips Museum, and an avid traveler and sports enthusiast. 

Preceded in death by her mother, she is survived by her father, Robert “Bob” Asbury and his wife, Ann of Oklahoma City; her sisters, Judy McNames and her husband Mike, Jan Thames Cochran and her husband, Skip; nieces Mandy Hogan and  her husband, Jonathan and children Michael, Mary Kendall and Molly, Molly McNames; and her extended family, Mr. and Mrs. Don Mertz, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Kendall, Dr. and Mrs. J. Robert Reneau, Mr. and Mrs. Grady McCorkle.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1:30 P.M., Tuesday, February 3, 2009, at the Tonkawa First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael B. Brannon officiating.  Friends are invited for fellowship following the service. Arrangements are under the direction of the Tonkawa Funeral Home, Tonkawa, OK.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Northern Oklahoma College Foundation – Joy Asbury Memorial Music Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 310, Tonkawa, OK 74653.  

Many are the lives touched and bettered by this humble servant of Christ; though she will be greatly missed, her joyful spirit lives on in all who knew and loved her.
