J.D. “Jimmy Dale” Summers, 25, of Commerce, Oklahoma, formerly of Tonkawa, Oklahoma passed away January 1, 2008 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.  J.D. was born October 2, 1982 in Ponca City, Oklahoma to Jimmy Dale Beard and Sherri Sue Drake.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 5, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Christian Life Church, Tonkawa, Oklahoma with Andy Young officiating. Interment will be at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Tonkawa, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direction of Tonkawa Funeral Home, Tonkawa, Oklahoma.

J.D. attended the Tonkawa Public Schools.  He enjoyed fishing, was an avid OU fan and loved children and animals.  His greatest love was for his family and he was loved by everyone who knew him.

J.D. married Melissa Phillips January 4, 2007 in Miami, Oklahoma and they worked together for Loving Care RCF in Joplin, Missouri.

He is survived by his wife, Melissa of the home; his mother and father Sherri and Jim Summers of Tonkawa, Oklahoma; his daughter, Bernadette and  son, Brent of the home; brother, Jamie Paul and his wife, Jennifer Summers of Tonkawa, Oklahoma; sisters, Michelle Nichole Martin, Kandi Sue Summers both of Tulsa, Oklahoma; father, Jimmy Dale Beard of Blackwell, Oklahoma; numerous aunts, uncles, seven nephews and a niece.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Opal Beard, Beatrice Summers and Ola Drake.

Pallbearers are Kenny Beard, Jr., Michael Taylor, Nathan Ward, Jeremy Eckert, James Martin and Justin Martin; honorary are Lane Summers, Nakota Summers, Gabriel Summers, Kaleb Martin, Jarrett Martin, Laydon McCullough, Hayden Shockley and Kristin Martin.

A memorial account in J.D.’s name has been set up at First National Bank, P.O. Box 400, Tonkawa, Oklahoma 74653 for the children’s education.
