
Jack L.
Cowen, 72, of Warr Acres, Oklahoma, formerly of
Lamont, Oklahoma passed away September 28, 2007 at
his home. Jack was born July 22, 1935 in Lamont,
Oklahoma to William Lewis and Florence (Bennett)
Cowen.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at
10:00 a.m. at the Forest Hill Christian Church, 2121
N. Macarthur, Oklahoma City with Rev. Jerl Joslin
officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. in the
Lamont Cemetery, Lamont, Oklahoma. Arrangements are
under the direction of Tonkawa Funeral Home,
Tonkawa, Oklahoma.
Jack grew up in Lamont graduating from Lamont High
School. He served in the U.S. Army in 1958 and ’59
as a Radio Relay and Carrier Operator.
He was a
member of the Lamont Masonic Lodge #166 and
Shrines.
Jack married Shirley Lois Long June 8, 1963 in
Blackwell, Oklahoma and she preceded him in death
January 18, 1995.
Jack was big in family genealogy and loved spending
time with his family especially at Christmas time
when he would have his house decorated with as many
lights as he could, also several nativity scenes.
He enjoyed the computer and had email friends from
all over the U.S.; he also enjoyed old tractors.
Jack owned and operated Jack’s Used Appliances for
the past thirty years. He was an avid Dallas
Cowboys fan but his biggest love was for his dog,
Gidget.
Jack will be missed in his neighborhood for the
Sunday afternoon block parties he had in his yard.
He is survived by his sons, Mark Schmitt and his
wife, Pam of Cushing, OK, Travis Cowen of Oklahoma
City, OK, Tracy Cowen and his wife, Randa of
Oklahoma City, OK; his daughters, Mary Beth Smith,
Oklahoma City, OK, Barbara Ann Kuntz and her
husband, Wesley of Bethany, OK; his sister, Billie
Lou Whitehead and her husband, Milo; his niece,
Maxie Skaggs and his nephews, Brad and Ross
Whitehead all of Lamont, OK; eleven grandchildren,
Tracy, Karen, Jennie, Brandon, Sarah, Wade, Josh,
Kaitlin, Bryan, Melanie and Evan; four great great
grandchildren, Alisha, Alex, Dominic and Emma; and
many friends.
He was preceded in death by wife, Shirley; his
parents, William and Florence.

Association in care of Tonkawa Funeral Home, 400 E.
Grand Ave, Tonkawa, Oklahoma 74653.
