HAZEL STURTZ CUNNINGHAM

Hazel Sturtz Cunningham, 86, of Tonkawa, Oklahoma passed away Monday, September 10, 2007 at Willow Haven Nursing Home in Tonkawa, Oklahoma.  Hazel was born February 19, 1921 on her maternal grandfathers’ farm near Medford, Oklahoma to Orein Leroy and Alta Mae (McKeeman) Sturtz.  .

Graveside services will be in the Tonkawa I.O.O.F. Cemetery Thursday, September 13, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Thomasson officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of Tonkawa Funeral Home, Tonkawa, Oklahoma.

Hazel graduated from Jefferson, Oklahoma high school.

She married Frank Woodrow Cunningham April 19, 1941 in Pond Creek, Oklahoma and he preceded her in death February 2, 1987.  They moved to Tonkawa in 1956 from Medford after spending several years in Lamont. 

She is a member of the First Baptist Church Tonkawa, the Lydia Sunday School Class and worked for Henry’s as a store clerk for twelve years before retiring.  Hazel was a seamstress and loved to quilt.

She is survived by her sons, Frank Cunningham and his wife, Cherry, of Corinth, Texas, John Cunningham and his wife Becky of Amarillo, Texas; her daughters, Janice Neely and her husband, Roy, Linda  Neely and her husband Robert all of Tonkawa, Oklahoma, Bonnie Lambert and her husband, Klaus of Northborough, Massachusetts; her sisters, Mildred Isaacs of Medford, Oklahoma, Frances Watts of Pond Creek, Oklahoma; her brother, Fred Sturtz and his wife, Geri of Enid, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Kara Cauthon and her husband, Bill of Emory, TX, Lisa Martinez and her husband, Jesse of Broken Arrow, OK, Michelle Neely of Ponca City, OK, Jeremiah Cunningham and his wife, Carla of Amarillo, TX, Josh Cunningham and his wife, Tracy of Amarillo, TX, Erin Lambert of Seattle, WA, John Lambert of Northborough, MA, Tracy Matthews and his wife, Melissa of Denton, TX, Holly Matthews, Boston, MA; great grandchildren, Kelsey Ramsey and her husband, Josh of Wylie, TX, Tyler Cauthon of Emory, TX, Elisabeth Cere of Ponca City, OK, Lexie Matthews of Denton, TX, Jacob Cunningham of Amarillo, TX, Jude Cunningham of Amarillo, TX, Morgan Matthews of Denton, TX; great great grandchild, Kenzie Ramsey of Wylie, TX and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her parents Orein and Alta; her brother, Calvin Sturtz; grandson, Clay Warren Neely; granddaughter, Donita Neely Brown.     

Memorials may be made to the Elevator Fund First Baptist Church in care of Tonkawa Funeral Home, 400 E. Grand Ave. Tonkawa, Oklahoma 74653.
