
Harold
"Duane" Carpenter, 74, of Point Blank, Texas,
former resident of Tonkawa passed away February 22,
2010 in Odyssey Healthcare of Conroe, Texas. Duane
was born October 31, 1935 at Woodward, Oklahoma to
Harold Theodore and Lena Luella (Rogers) Carpenter.
Duane's family moved west of Tonkawa to the Pratt
Center District in 1940; he attended the Enterprise
Elementary School and graduated from Tonkawa High
School.
Duane married Carmeleta Love on October 30, 1953 at
the Tonkawa Bible Church. They made their home here
until 1955, when they moved to Wellington, Kansas.
In 1966, they moved to El Dorado, Kansas and later
to Topeka and Atchison, before moving to Houston,
Texas. In July of 2002, they returned to Tonkawa
where he lived until 2007 at which time he moved to
his daughters' Teresa in Van Alstyne, Texas; then
January 2009 he moved to Huntsville, Texas to lived
with his son Bruce who was his best friend.
Carmeleta preceded him in death February 4, 2003;
having celebrated forty nine years of marriage.
Duane spent his life working in the grocery store
business, he worked at Dorsett's at one time and
owned several of his own grocery stores over the
years. He was working at Ponca Discount Store in
Ponca City at the time of his retirement. He was a
member of the Tonkawa First Assembly of God
Church.
He is survived by his children, Sherry Hopcus and
husband, Ralph of Bremond, Texas, Teresa Kuster of
McKinney, Texas, Bruce Carpenter and wife, Terri of
Point Blank, Texas, Kenneth Carpenter and wife,
Brenda of Belle Plaine, Iowa; his sister, Jennie
West and husband, Bud of Tonkawa, Oklahoma; his
brother, Darrel Carpenter and wife, Ellen of
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren; his
sister-in-law LaDonna Kreger; numerous nieces,
nephew and other family members.
He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents
and his brother Neal Carpenter.
Funeral Services will be Friday, February 26, 2010
at 2:00 p.m. in the First Assembly of God Church
with Pastor Bud West and Pastor Vince Boone
officiating. Interment will follow in the Resthaven
Memorial Park Cemetery, Ponca City, Oklahoma.
Arrangements are under the direction of Tonkawa
Funeral Home, Tonkawa, OK.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Buck Windham,
Christopher, Jeremy, Jason, Chase, Benjamin
Carpenter. Honorary pallbearers are Wesley
Carpenter and Tyler Kuster.

in the care of Tonkawa Funeral Home, 400 E. Grand
