
Bertha Mae Barker, 102, of Lawton, Oklahoma passed
away Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at the
McMahon-Tomlinson Nursing Home in Lawton, Oklahoma.
She was born October 22, 1906 in Salem, Arkansas to
Mahlon and Hattie Evelyn (Coen) McGuffee.
Graveside service will
be held on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 2:00 pm at
the IOOF Cemetery in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. Arrangements
are under the direction of the Tonkawa Funeral Home.
Bertha grew up in Salem, Arkansas where she attended
school and met and married Charles T. Barker.
They moved to Three
Sands, Oklahoma in 1929. Together they were in the
grocery business from 1934 to 1965. Charles
preceded her in death in 1963. In 2003 she moved to
Lawton, Oklahoma and spent the rest of her long life
there.
She is survived by a
daughter, Betty Phelps of Lawton; two sons, Bill
Barker and his wife Barbee of Lawton, Oklahoma, and
Mike Barker of Sheridan, Oregon; a daughter-in-law,
Roberta Barker of Ponca City, Oklahoma; twelve
grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and
eight great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in
death by her husband, Charles T. Barker; one son,
Charles Barker; her parents, Mahlon and Hattie
McGuffee; five brothers; and two sisters.
