
Alta May Hale Franklin one of Tonkawa’s Centennial
residents passed away Thursday, November 15, 2007 at
the age of 102 in the Willow Haven Nursing Home in
Tonkawa, Oklahoma. Alta was born September 10, 1905
in Arnett, Oklahoma to William Wallace and Nellie
May (Flathers) Lillie.
Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday,
November 17, 2007 in the Tonkawa I.O.O.F. Cemetery
with Dr. Richard Thomasson officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Tonkawa
Funeral Home, Tonkawa, Oklahoma.
Alta married Ivan Otis Hale May, 7, 1922 in Gage,
Oklahoma and he preceded her in death in 1977 after
celebrating fifty five years of marriage she later
married Elmo Franklin and he preceded her in death
several years ago.
Alta and Ivan moved to the farm between Tonkawa and
Billings when their daughter was five years old.
She was known for her chicken and noodles and home
made bread. Her greatest love was for family and
she enjoyed going to all the grandchildren’s
activities. Alta loved to go square dancing.
She is survived by her daughter, Marjorie Ardis
Prelesnick of Tonkawa, Oklahoma; three
grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; fourteen
great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and
nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, Ivan Hale
and Elmo Franklin; her parents; her brothers, Floyd
Martin, Roy William, Oliver Loyd and Wayne Harold
Lillie; her sisters, Mable Orah Tomlin and Bethel
Lewis Lillie.

care of Tonkawa Funeral Home, 400 E. Grand Ave.
