Lou Ann Gray, 89, of Tonkawa, OK passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at Ponca City Medical Center. She was born June 22, 1924 in New Glarus, Wisconsin to Herman J. and Marie (Feller) Zweifel.
Lou Ann grew up on a farm west of New Glarus, Wisconsin; her first 8 years of school was in a one room country school, she then went to high school in New Glarus and after graduation she went to work part time. She then moved to Madison where she met and married Dale Bird who was in the Air Force stationed at Madison at that time, moving all over the country. They moved to Stillwater in 1949.
Lou Ann married Virgil Gray May 18, 1972 in Miami, Oklahoma and they moved to Tonkawa. After his death in 1983 she worked at Cupid in Blackwell until she retired in 1998 because of bad health.
Lou Ann was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Ponca City and the Methodist Church in Tonkawa.
She is survived by her son, James D. Bird, Sr. and his wife, Dian of Stillwater; a brother, Ernest Zweifel and his wife, Sing of Callahan, FL; her two grandchildren, James D. Bird, Jr., Louann Bird-Moore and her husband, Jeremy; her great grandchildren, Zackery, Mikeal, Britt, Johsa and Amanda Bird, Billy, Shawn, Jessy, Jason and Carol Curtis; and one great-great granddaughter, Anna Marie Bird and numerous other relatives.
She is preceded in death by her husbands and her parents.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, December 23, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church, Tonkawa, OK with Dr. Janice Sharp officiating. Interment will follow in the Tonkawa I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Anderson Funeral Home, Tonkawa, OK.
